A reinvention of the historic Indian Creek Hotel, one of Miami Beach’s classic 1930s Art Deco buildings, Freehand is centrally located just a block from the beach at the corner of 28th Street and Indian Creek Drive. The hostel offers 258 beds divided among 80 rooms, including both private and shared accommodations, with handcrafted interiors by acclaimed designers Roman and Williams. The property also features a swimming pool and lush center courtyard, bicycles, and social event programming for guests, all curated by an activities concierge. Local food & beverage is by Bar Lab, who run acclaimed specialty cocktail bar The Broken Shaker at Freehand – named one of The World’s 50 Best Bars 2014 through 2017 – as well as 27 Restaurant, which opened in late 2014.
Both feature a variety of drinks and dishes that use fresh produce and herbs from Freehand’s garden, many inspired by the diverse culture of Miami. Design duo Timo Weiland designed the staff uniforms, and local artists produced custom pieces for the guest rooms and public spaces. Freehand is owned by Sydell Group, a New York-based owner, developer, and manager of lifestyle-oriented hotels.
