About Our Hostel
The common room houses a small library, an international clothing swap, coffee/tea station, and a beauty bar for makeup/hair/work/laptops. Clean towels and bedding provided upon check-in, and soaps/shampoos in each shower!
Our neighborhood abuts the Waikea Stream and a gorgeous Banyan tree. We are situated between historic Downtown Hilo with its open-air market, shopping, and dining and the University of Hawai'i at Hilo. There are many restaurants, salons, and stores within walking distance. There's also a bus station near the government buildings (across the street) that will take you to Hilo's larger shopping center, mall, Movie Theater, and even the 4 mile long stretch of beaches. We are also only 4 blocks away from Hilo Bay.
The Hilo area is not on many people’s radar when visiting Hawaiʻi due to its reputation for rain and its slow and easygoing atmosphere. However, without our famous rain we wouldn’t have Hilo’s dramatic waterfalls, fertile rainforests and blooming gardens. Hilo is blessed with a rich connection to the Native Hawaiian and local cultures of Hawaiʻi that can be seen no matter where you go. Hilo is the perfect place for the traveler that likes to unwind and disconnect from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Hilo is the perfect place to recharge and reinvigorate.
Big Island Hostel is a place where all women, 18 years or older, feel safe, comfy, and close to everything!
