About Our Hostel
We have created many great memories for our guests for over 20 years and our family owned and run hostel is lovingly known as the friendliest hostel in Kings Cross; the heart of Sydney backpacker community!
The Original Hostel is a big, beautiful Victorian mansion, which has been converted and updated over the years to clean, modern & affordable backpacker accommodation with all the modern amenities you would ever need!
We have a beautiful sunny central outdoor courtyard with BBQ facilities, plus our hostel features include Wi-Fi access throughout the entire hostel, Netflix & cable TV in our common lounge area, a large commercial kitchen that can accommodate many cooks, and laundry facilities on site.
Accommodation includes large dormitory rooms, female only dorm rooms, smaller dorm rooms which can also be completely privately booked sleeping up to 6 people plus private double rooms some with and some without your own private bathroom. All with fridges, fans and heaters, some with televisions and DVD players.
We love helping our guests meet other people and have an enjoyable time, so our events manager takes our guests out every night with discounts to the hottest bars, pubs and nightclubs in Sydney plus free & discount drinks!
But it’s not all about the nightlife. Sydney offers fantastic day-life too with our surf-mad manager Bruce, who’s been with us for over 10 years, shares his best spots to enjoy Sydney’s spectacular beaches.
We partner with the best tour operators as well, giving our guests the benefit of fantastic discounts on all the best tours including surfing lessons, sky-diving, mountain day trips, wine tasting day trips, whale watching (when in season) and many many more things to do and see in and around Sydney.
When staying at The Original, you will be located in a beautiful wide street in the chic colourful neighbourhood of Kings Cross. Well known for its funky cafes, laneway venues, pubs, clubs, shops and markets all within walking distance.
And we are just a 25 minute walk to some of the most iconic landmarks in Sydney including the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney Opera House, the city CBD and world-renowned Botanical Gardens.
If walking is not your thing, then you’ll be super-happy that the train station is just 200 metres down the road which can take you into the city and main harbour in just a couple of minutes.
